Block 1 - Heart 1 |
I
have seven boxes full of fabric scraps, two boxes full of binding off-cuts and over a hundred odd charm squares left over from various projects. I don’t like to throw things away so I have come
up with an ambitious, plan – a Block-a-Day (BAD) project.
That’s
365 blocks over the course of 2015. I am
starting with Carol Doak’s 50 Little Paper-Pieced Blocks. These blocks measure just 3” square but I am
adding a little border to each so that they finish at 4½” square. This first book
should take me through to the middle of February.
Block 3 - Heart 2 |
But there
is a slight hic-cup already. I am 10
blocks behind as I didn’t come up with this plan until this week and I’ve only
completed four blocks to date! Never
mind – I have created another plan - the catch-something-BAD plan. I shall catch up on my Block-a-Day (BAD)
project over the next ten days by making two blocks a day.
Block 4 - Six-Pointed Star |
Hopefully
by the end of January I would’ve ‘caught-something-BAD’ and be all set for the
rest of the year!
Which
just leaves me to ask - anybody fancy catching-something-BAD with me?

Until next time ........
Your scrappy BAD blocks are just delightful!! What a great idea to add the border on them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I see you are Paper Piecing! You will soon be addicted to it, Amanda!! I am going to work on my Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt blocks this year and will add them to your BAD group.
I also will confess that it is fun to snoop and see your quilty scraps !!
Susie
Those little paper-pieced blocks are so quick to do Susie - I can see why you like them so much. I am having so much fun and have only needed the seam ripper once!
DeleteWould love to join you, but can't promis I can keep up to you. There are several WIP's lying around that could be used for BAD! Will give it a serious go!!!
ReplyDeleteEsther
No keeping up needed - just make a block using scraps whenever you have a moment - and post a picture to the Flickr group if you get time.
DeleteI like to come up with a challenge each month--I was thinking of one for Feb of a block a day for those 28 days--but a block a day for every day--I am pretty sure I would fail at that--so I am wishing you the best of success--and I really love the ones you got done already--way to go!!!

A block-a-day for one month is such a good idea. If you do decide to do a block-a-day for February I would love to see them.
DeleteOooooohhhh...something BAD's about to happen, and I mean that in the best way! I REALLY wish I could do a BAD thing, but I just can't fit that in, and I would feel kind of sad each day I didn't make it. I'll just feel happy looking at YOUR sweet blocks instead, ok?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want you sad and it will be lovely to have you looking over me.
DeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI want to join your BAD group! But I sometimes may end up in the BEOD group (block every other day). I do have that Carol Doak book so I'm going to look for it and I really want to bust some stash!! Thanks for the good idea.
Sheri
I think a BEOD or a BEW (block every week) would be an excellent aim - much better that the fabric scraps are put into some sort of order. It also means that, if you are making a little project and you want to add a personal touch, you can patch in one of the blocks.
DeleteFun project! I don't have the book and I'm a bit behind with my own project but I'll be watching you :)
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have to be this book Vera - it can be any block made from scraps. But "block-browsing" is fun too - especially when there is already too much to do.
