Sometimes you just need a little bit bigger.  So it was with my block for the Farm Girl Vintage sew-along this week.  I am making the 6" blocks for the Farm Girl sampler quilt and this week’s block is the Old Glory Block – the American Flag.  It is a stunner.

But I’m a Brit and I want my quilt to reflect that so I have created a new Union Jack Block pattern to create a 6" and a 12" square patchwork block.

If you want to do the same I have created a new pattern just for you - the Union Jack Block and Runner pattern.  This pattern includes instructions to make a 6" and a 12" Union Jack block together with easy-to-follow directions to make this stunning table runner.

Modern Mary Mug Rug

If you are in need of a quick gift for friend, you can’t go far wrong with my Mug Rug Alphabet pattern and a few squares from a fabric panel.  

My alphabet letters fit perfectly on the squares of these
Modern Minis fabric panels.

Cut your letters first, lay them out onto your background fabric, remembering to allow for binding and then cut the background fabric 1” larger than you need.

  

But I can't stop and chat I must get working on Elizabeth’s named mug rug ...... now that really won't fit on a 10" x 5" rectangle!

Sweetly Stitched Sew Along

You might already know that I've been joining in the Sweetly Stitched sew along over on Instagram (#sweetlystitchedSAL).  Round 3 has just finished and I made a very pretty, lap quilt using the Modern Color Block Quilt pattern from Amy's "Sweetly Stitched Handmades" book.

Okay, so I photographed my quilt upside down.
What can I say?  It is a skill I have!

I  teamed a selection of fabrics from Lori Holt’s new Modern Minis fabric range with some Kona solids.

The quilt top was machine pieced prior to my holiday and hand quilted during the holiday. 

I used a multi-purpose two stranded cotton for the hand quilting.

And I cheated on the scrappy binding by cutting up one of Lori's Modern Minis panels. 

I only used a small amount of one panel for the binding.

I shall add a little detailing to the border but more about that another time as Round 4 has started and I am making the Crayon Castle Caddy (without the crayons).  

I chose my fabrics this morning ..... 

and I’ve nearly finished already .....

Making the Castle Caddy reminded me of the Zakka SAL from 2012.

I just want to add a little Patchsmith touch here and there before I submit it.

Night Owls Mug Rug

One of the things I love about mug rugs is that you can make them quickly by machine ....

.... or more leisurely by hand .....

Either way you can use scraps of fabric and felt to create a little piece of fabric art to keep or to give.

And, as this new Night Owl mug rug pattern is similar in many respects to my original Two Owls mug rug, the hints and tips provided for that pattern are good for this one twoooooo!
